What are the literary devices and elements Stephen King uses in the short story "Survivor Type"?

I do not have the story sitting in front of me, but as I
recall, there are tons of totally disgusting similes and metaphors regarding blood,
pain, guts, and taste sensations ("they taste like lady fingers" is one particular quote
I remember, as the "survivor" is cutting off his body parts and eating them to survive).
If you have the story, you should look through it to find similes, metaphors and images
- there is a lot of blood and guts.

The story is about a
doctor who is marooned on a deserted island with no food or supplies. All he has is some
drugs he has been smuggling. He winds up eating various body parts to survive, and to
deal with the pain, he takes the drugs. As the story progresses, he becomes more and
more incoherent, because he is on drugs, so the writing style is unique in that it
deteriorates from narrative (he is writing in a diary) into a type of rambling, stream
of conscious thought that often does not make sense.

If a woman has heavy bleeding after unprotected sex, is it likely she is pregnant?Confused. I've heard many varying answers to this question and i...

It depends...is the bleeding immediately after sex or
weeks after sex?

If it is immediately after sex then I
would say that perhaps something inside the woman (for example, the hymen) has a minor
rip or tear.

Bleeding from a miscarriage does not
happen because a woman has sex. Rather, it happens randomly, usually due to an
abnormality of the fetus. There is usually pain associated with miscarriages as
well.

The best thing to do is to see a doctor. They will be
able to give you the best advice by conducting and examination and running tests if
necessary. In addition, remember it is VERY important to always follow safe sex rules.
This means the use of condoms. If birth control is used it is still possible to get
STD's.

What does reader response criticism mean? And how would one use it?

Reader Response Criticism, as the very name suggests,
refers to a school of literary theory which emphasises the reader's experience of a
literary work, recognises the reader as an active agent who completes the meaning(s) of
a literary text through interpretation(s).

The school
originated in the 1960s and expressed itself more fully in the 1970s and 1980s in
America and Germany in the works of Norman Holland, Stanley Fish, Wolfgang Iser, Ronald
Barthes and others. Stanley Fish's observation that " The 'I' of the reader always
colors the text" may be taken as a basic clue to the whole
idea.

Reader Response Criticism thus stood in opposition to
Formalism and New Criticism which did not recognise  the intention or authority of the
reader/audience in the evaluation of a literary
text.

Perhaps in I.A.Richards' readings of texts of poetry
at Cambridge in 1929, there were the seeds of this school or
approach.

What does the speaker mean by “eternal lines to time” (line 12)? What is the connection between those eternal lines and the prediction he...

As I understand it, what the speaker means is that the
object of the poem ("thou") will come to be one with time because these lines (the poem)
are eternal.  So what he is saying is that the object of the poem will never die any
more than time will die.

This goes with the prediction in
the lines before.  This is because the eternal life that the object will have (because
of this poem) will ensure that she does not die and that her beauty will never grow
old.  Because of being in this poem, the object will live forever, just as lines 9
through 11 predict.

What is the numbers whose sum is 31 and the product is 361

Let the sum of the two numbers x1 and x2 = 31 and their
product  x1x2 = 361. We have to find the numbers x1 and
x2.

So x1 and x2 are the roots of x^2-(x1+x2)x+x1x2 = 0,
or

x^2-31x+361 = 0.

We know
that the roots of the equation ax^2+bx+c = 0 is given by:x1 = {-b+sqrt(b^2-4ac)}/2a
and

x2 =
{-b+sqrt(b^2-4ac)}/2.

Here a = 1, b= -31 and c=
361.

So x1 = {-(-31) + sqrt{(-31)^2 -
4*361)}/2

x1 =
{31+sqrt(-483)}/2

x2 =
{31-sqrt(-483)}/2.

Therefore there are no real numbers
whose sum is 31 and the product is 361. However there is solution in complex numbers..
So , x1 = {31+sqrt(-483)}/2 and x2 = {31-sqrt(-483)}/2 are the
solutions.

What is the equivalent to 3x-6

To find the equivalent means to determine the range of
values of x that makes the inequality to hold.

We'll solve
the inequality separating x to the left side.We'll add 6 both sides and we'll subtract
2x both sides:

3x - 2x < 6 +
4

We'll combine like terms:

x
< 10

The interval of admissible values of x is
(-infinite , 10).

The equivalent of the given
inequality is x < 10.

Find two numbers whose sum is 26 and whose product is 165.

Let us assume that the numbers are x and
y.

Given that the sum of the numbers is
26.

==> x+ y=
26............(1)

Also, given that the product is
165.

==> x*y =
165..........(2)

We will use the substitution method to
solve for x and y.

From (1), we know that x=
26-y

Now we will substitute into
(2).

==> (26-y)*y =
165

==> 26y - y^2 =
165

==> y^2 - 26y + 165 =
0

Now we will
factor.

==> ( x-15)(x-11) =
0

==> x1= 15 ==> y1= 26-15 =
11

==> x2= 11 ==> y2= 26-11 =
15

Then, the numbers are 11 and
15.

Calculate tan(x-y), if sin x=1/2 and sin y=1/3. 0

We'll write the formula of the tangent of difference of 2 angles. tan (x-y) = (tan x - tan y)/(1 + tan x*tan y) ...
